How to Order
It often takes a few weeks to prepare to order a Picture Book of your own family.
FIRST STEP
You will need to to decide what ancestors you want to include, what best postitive characteristic they have, and a short story of how they displayed that characteristic. This can take a lot of time, if you let it, but in general, this is possible in 5-15 hours. Once you are ready, fill in our Google Form (See our instructions below).
SECOND STEP
Once you send us the Google order form and pay a 50% downpayment, we will start illustrating your book for you. We will send you a proof of each ancestor and you can make up to 2 changes for each. This step can take up to 3 weeks.
THIRD STEP
Once we have illustrations that you're happy with, we will require a final payment before we will send you a link to download your PDFs for your book, which you can then upload to Chatbooks to make your book. You order as many copies as you want after that!
To get started on the FIRST STEP:
If you want to order a Picture Book, we will need you to do some footwork before we start the ordering process. Whether you're spotlighting 16 people or 28, we'll need the following information for each person. There is an example below, along with a list of characteristics above to get you started. Remember, keep it positive!
1) Characteristic
and name: See list of characteristics below to get your ideas going.
2) Caption (50-100
words): Keep it positive, and focus on why they exhibit their characteristic in
a small story or summary of their life. Think short, like a Tweet, but
informative enough to be interesting. Start with their full name.
3) Details about
person: gender, age, time period they lived in, country they
lived in, skin color, hair color, eye color, clothing, expression you prefer
for story or personality, any posing suggestions
4) Suggestions for
setting, etc.: any background ideas or ground ideas, items they can
hold or interact with, furniture, any additional people, etc. Please limit the
items and/or people to 3 or less, and either a background or ground (not both).
Susan Jones was always
baking and giving her creations to friends and strangers. One day she baked a
few loaves of bread and gave them to a neighbor, only to find that they had no
food and had prayed for help. She then went to the store and bought them
groceries!
(Susan was a woman
living in York, England in the 1930s. She had short brown hair and brown eyes, fair
skin, with a freckle by her right eye, and she was always smiling. Always wore
a dress with an apron. Susan can be handing a neighbor a fresh loaf of
bread, or perhaps making pies as she was always baking them and giving them
away.)

* Our fees do not include a copy of the book. We will provid you with PDF files, which you can take to a photo book printer to print what size/amount you want. We recommend Chatbooks as they are fast and affordable, and they offer toddler-friendly options (including replacements!). Book covers are included and will be discussed with each client.
